The
new Adelaide suburb of Seaford Rise was selected as
the site for our first Australian Village. Seaford Rise
was considered to be the ideal environment for our children.
The 13 allotments all adjoin and are clustered around
a cul de sac which includes a delightful small park,
which provides a natural playground and gathering point
for the children and village social activities.
The
village is on a gentle slope, which overlooks the ocean
and arguably one of Australia’s finest beaches, Moana.
The beach is some 2 kilometres in length and is somewhat
rare in that family cars can be driven onto the beach
from a ramp leading off the esplanade. As the beach
is only a short distance from the village it is a favourite
spot for the children, either for swimming or fishing.
Because of the modern planning of the suburb, special
provision has been made for safe off street bicycle
trails and community and sports facilities. The Seaford
Rise primary school is just a short walk from the village
and a new high school also is within easy reach. SOS
mothers enjoy the services of a large new modern shopping
centre.

The
new family homes were specifically designed to blend
in with surrounding homes. There are no signs, or any
other indicators that this is a SOS village. Indeed,
first-time visitors have difficulty in recognising our
homes as anything different to other homes in the neighbourhood,
and for the sake of the children this is exactly how
we want it to be. In every way, we strive to make the
children's lives and homes as normal as possible. A
new suburb was considered to be the ideal environment
for the children because they could be part of its early
establishment and could assimilate into new schools,
sporting clubs, churches and community groups. This
has proven to be a wise choice and the village has been
accepted as an integral part of the new community.
Seaford
Rise is within easy reach of all of the tourist attractions
of the Fleurier Peninsular and in particular
a holiday farm which is the location of the village
annual camp where all the village families participate
in the activities of a working farm.
